LOL, so funny reading you say you're both scardy cats. It's understandable though, with all that going on. Before we jump into paranormal, let's think obvious. It's an old house, could have older wiring, thus the lights (as you've already mentioned), as well as the ADT (I might be lying about that though, I honestly don't know anything about it, but I'm sure it's hooked up via electricity, if not, disregard please). You may also have high EMF levels, which could cause paranoia, fear, nausea, etc. You can buy a pretty cheap EMF detector to check that out, but, with the age of the house, it's quite possible. I honestly cannot think of a reason for your slippers being placed like that. If it is paranormal, then you've got a neat freak ghost that doesn't like Hello Kitty. You don't want to move into the house feeling afraid all the time, so I would suggest contacting a paranormal investigation group near there to have them check the place out.
