Are people consciously aware of the absorbency of the skin?

If you took a class of children or adults and exposed them to an experiment in which massage oil or water was applied a) to the surface of the human skin and b) to a dry, non-absorbent surface, they would, I suspect, be collectively surprised or even shocked by the speed at which the liquid is absorbed, even tho many already kinda know from experience etc. Am I right?
