Why do so many "conservatives" use the word ELITIST like it's some kind of terrible insult?

Because LIBERALS make such a big deal out of being Egalitarian. And since we know they really think the people are morons who would be lucky to be the serf of a liberal lord, we like to rub their noses in it and remind them we know what they are up to.
